Imagine 2008

GM Student Design Competition | High School Show | GM Inspires Fashion Students | Photo Gallery

International Academy of Design & Technology students learned details of the General Motors Student Design Competition at the Kick-Off Event held Friday, February 8. The Kick-Off was held on the floor of the Chicago Auto Show among faculty, fellow students and auto enthusiasts. After taking away their first impressions of the vehicles from the auto show, the students were given two weeks to develop their sketches. Chosen students will have about 6 weeks to produce the garments. The five winning designs will be selected and showcased at Imagine 2008, IADT's annual fashion show sponsored by GM. The fashion show will take place on May 15 in the Great Hall of Chicago's Union Station. Each student winner will receive a $500 cash award from General Motors.

The five featured GM vehicles for 2008 include:

  • Hummer HX Concept – an agile, trail-ready, open-air vehicle made for off-road yet with distinctive styling.
  • Chevrolet Malibu LTZ – represents the new face of Chevrolet.
  • Pontiac G8 GT – sporty, yet sleek with V-8 power.
  • Saturn Astra 3-Door – European flavor that delivers sporty performance with good fuel economy.
  • Saab Turbo X – turbocharged with a “back to the future” feel.
