International Students

Every approved non-immigrant visa by the U.S. Consulate or by the U.S. Embassy is responsible for maintaining his/her visa status for the duration of their stay. There are a few visas in which one may study, please research which is right for you. Violations not maintaining his/her visa could result in termination and legal ramifications. The Academy has a structured International Team:

International Admissions Representatives
International Admissions play an important role with assisting in document preparation for admissions until you begin your enrollment and program education at our Chicago design school. Once you begin your first quarter you will then become a part of the student body and report to your international advisors for the remaining completion of your studies. Please consult with an International Admissions Representative prior to applying for a visa.

International Advisors PDSO, DSO
Known as a PDSO, Primary Designated Student Official, a DSO, Designated Student Official. Please become familiar, you may hear DHS, Department of Homeland Security, Officials or Customs Agents refer to your international advisor in with these terms. The PDSO and DSO will be your key person for guidance, updates and changes, to assist with maintenance of your visa.

Career Services
The Academy - Chicago becomes a full partner with each student, helping him or her to succeed at school and in the workplace. The Academy takes an active role in the student's career development process from career guidance, to help writing resumes, creating portfolios, mock interviews, and to even contacting potential employers on the student's behalf. Our Chicago design school keeps a growing database of hiring companies and works with each student to help prepare them for potential career opportunities.

International Admissions

To apply for Admission, Just follow the steps described here:

  1. Submit an application for admission
    When you are ready to apply for admission to the Academy - Chicago, just click the "Apply Now" button. You will be transferred to a page asking for your contact information. Just complete the required fields and submit; your application will be sent electronically to our Chicago design school. There is a $50 application fee, which must be paid in U.S. dollars. After you submit your application, the Academy - Chicago will contact you to complete the remaining steps.
  2. Submit an English proficiency assessment
    Students whose native language is not English may be required to take an English proficiency test or demonstrate their English proficiency through other measures established by the school. Learn more about acceptable English proficiency assessments.
  3. Conduct a personal telephone interview with one of our Admissions Representatives
    All applicants are required to complete a telephone interview. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions about the curriculum and courses that interest you. Interviews are also used to determine whether applicants are qualified to become students at the Academy - Chicago. Please feel free to have a parent or spouse present for the interview, if it would make you more comfortable.
  4. Submit appropriate official school documentation
    Prospective International students must submit documentation of high school diploma or secondary certificate equivalent to U.S. educational standards. Students holding an associate, bachelor or master's degree must submit a transcript and diploma; if documents are in another language then student must submit documents in original language as well as translations to English. The Academy - Chicago must receive your transcripts within three weeks after we receive your application for admission.
