New students with F-1 visas are allowed to work on campus part-time with certain restrictions and must meet international student requirements. Students can not work off campus for 12 months into their program unless achieving senior level after an evaluation of foreign credentials.
CPT- Curricular Practical Training
(Must relate to field of study) Students who qualify are allowed to work while attending off campus until the end of an academic program level. CPT is an integral part of the curriculum designed for internship purposes and applies only to students pursuing a bachelor degree with a full-time course load. CPT does not apply to an associate degree. CPT does not require a petition or application fee, it does require a submission by a DSO/International advisor prior to the first day of employment and expires the last day of the academic program date; students are in violation if working without approval. To work in a CPT a student must have a Social Security card. Students are responsible for pursuing and requesting a CPT see a DSO/international Advisor or Career Services for assistance and guidance.
OPT - Optional Practical Training – (Must relate to field of study) students may engage in authorized temporary employment for 12 months after completing an academic program level, there are options for the start and end dates. An Employment Authorized Document (EAD) card will be issued. There is an application process for the OPT and filing fee $180.00. There is a deadline to apply, students must begin application procedures sufficiently in advance, students are recommended to apply 90-120 days prior to graduation to ensure approval. It is normal to apply if you are currently working in CPT. If a student does not apply prior to program end date the student will forfeit OPT. Students are responsible for pursuing and requesting an OPT see a DSO/international Advisor or Career Services for assistance and guidance.

- I-765 form
- I-20 with DSO recommendation
- $180.00 check or money order to; Department of Homeland Security *Copy of Passport
- Copy of I-94 front and back
- 2 Immigration style photos
